Dusting Off the Word

I speak to many people daily who are dealing with marital problems, relationship issues, financial difficulties, work-related issues, and familial problems. It’s like the boat they were riding in sunk, and they weren’t wearing a life jacket. They are struggling with life and desire someone to send them a lifeline. They want to find a way of escape from their difficult situations, but they continue to sink.
As I look around, I see people who are enduring trials, tribulations, afflictions, and life difficulties. People who desire change, but don’t know which way to start. Sometimes, the challenges they are faced with can be overpowering. We tend to seek help and validation from people, places, and things, but there’s no resolution. When I’m faced with problems in my life, I remind myself to look to the hills which comes my help, which comes from the Word of God.
The help which is needed is in His word. How many individuals have Bibles throughout their houses? How many of those Bibles are being read and used? I remember when I was struggling in life, I had plenty of Bibles throughout my home. Most of them had dust on them. I hadn’t read them for a long time. The things we deal with can be resolved if we read the stories shared throughout the Bible.
For instance, Elijah dealt with issues from Jezebel because she wanted him dead. Elijah had just won a victory on Mount Carmel, but Jezebel’s words caused him turmoil. Unbelievable! Even after a great victory, we still feel defeated. This issue probably caused Elijah stress, but we do know it made him want his life to be taken prematurely. Elijah asked God to take his life. Instead of taking his life, God sent Elijah food and water from heaven. It nourished his body and strengthened him for the journey to come.
Reading these passages of Scripture encourage me that when I’m enduring and the enemy desires to take my life, I can trust in the Lord to sustain me. Stop searching for validation and comfort from others, the help you need will come from the Lord. On today, dust your word off and encourage yourself in the Lord. Stop placing your Bible in places it cannot be found or read. It's the most valuable resource you have in your possession.
